Work community mediation

"There is no such problem which being left unspoken would help to solve it."

What is work community mediation about?

Work community mediation is a new method, based on general mediation models and the solution focus approach. The mediation offers a possibility to face conflicts of the work community and a tool to solve them.

In the work community mediation an objective neutral person, mediator, helps the sides of the conflict to find a solution to satisfy all by the means of a special mediation procedure. Significant matters in the mediation are hearing, fixing and replacing. There can be two persons, a team or a bigger group of people as an object of mediation.

The role of the mediator

The mediator doesn't take part in the solution of the conflict but acts as a facilitator of the conciliation. The mediator directs the process as a result of which parties themselves find the solution. The mediator isn't a passive withdrawer but an active listener. He or she makes it possible to become heard and allows processing of emotions, moral reasoning and value discussion. In the mediating process, through discussions, an agreement will be gained that all the parties will approve and sign.

Mediating as a learning process

Mediating is also a learning process. It will teach us among other things:

  • creative problem solving skills
  • facing conflicts
  • understanding of diversity
  • honest expression of thoughts and feelings
  • forming of broader general view
  • team working
  • courage
  • listening skills

Benefits of mediation

  • By mediation permanent solutions will be gained: people stand up for what they have created themselves.
  • Mediating is efficient: it saves time, energy and expenses.
  • Mediating prevents conflicts: early interfering will reduce the gravity of conflicts.
  • Mediating will preserve the relationships and determine them in a new healthier way: common understanding will grow.
  • Mediating is personal and confidential: this is how the parties will be encouraged to speak up openly.

All of our mediators are authorized by Suomen Sovittelufoorumi
