Strategic Capability Insight
The Strategic Capability Insight (SCI) -project or strategic capability mapping is a reliable and practical way of kick-starting a business activity based management of competence. A good outcome is guaranteed by the fact that the project immediately develops not only HR-processes but also business activity.

Strategic Capabilities
In the SCI-project we define company’s strategic capabilities, based on company’s goals, business environment and current resources, which are needed to succeed in a current and future competitive business environment.
Results that surpass expectations
The principle of the SCI project is “maximum benefit with minimum effort”. In practice this means that the key persons interviews, which are included in the project, are carried out in the efficient way and take up only limited time from the top management.
Strategic capability insight effortlessly integrates the competence point of view into the company’s strategic planning. Additionally SCI-project provides solid base for company directors to manage the company through structural changes occurring in business environment or within the organization.
Who is it suitable for?
The SCI project is especially well suited to a situation where:
- The company wants to start or develop competence management based on business activity, but doesn’t know where to start.
- The company is working on a strategy and its different options are being judged and developed.
- The personnel manager wants to re-enforce the HR function’s ability to genuinely act as a business partner.
The SCI method is based on Teemu J. Lehtonen’s doctoral thesis (“The Strategic Management of an Organisational Competence”) and it has already been adapted in various companies.
The results have been utilised amongst other things:

- designing knowledge management procedures

- as a part of strategy processes
- guidance for planning business activity and budgeting
- planning acquisitions, incorporations and divestments
- base for the real option value calculations of development processes
